Mikumi is the fourth largest national park in Tanzania and only a few hours drive from Tanzania’s largest city making the park the most easily accessible by road along the highway from Dar-es-Salaam City making the park a popular option for weekend getaways from the city with flexible short-haul safari itineraries. Located between the Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango range, the park’s wildlife can be easily spotted and also well acclimatized to game viewing and is often dubbed as the smaller Serengeti of the South with open horizons and abundant wildlife of the Mkata Floodplain, the popular centerpiece of Mikumi. Mikumi National Park borders the Selous on the south and other natural areas bordering the national park are the Udzungwa and Uluguru Mountains.The Maundwa Mountain located within the park connects a range of hills that run east and west through the park, connecting the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast with the Uvidunda and Udzungwa mountains to the west.
