Arusha National Park has a rich variety of wildlife with varied eco-systems and the most convenient and popular destination for visitors for a daily embark from the Safari Capital of Arusha, a chance to get away from the more crowded and longer northern circuit safaris. Although the game-viewing experience is far-less in expectations compared to the neighboring parks, Arusha National Park is home to Tanzania’s second largest peak, Mt.Meru. The Meru Crater funnels the Jekukumia River and the peak of Mount Meru which lies on its rim with the Ngurdoto Crater in the south-east. The small national park includes the slopes, summit, and ash cone of Mt. Meru, shallow alkaline Momella Lakes in the north-east with varying algal colours and are known for their wading birds, and the lush highland forests that blanket its lower slopes. The Game Viewing experience includes giraffe, Cape buffalo, zebra, warthog, the black-and-white colobus monkey, the blue monkey, flamingo, elephant, bushbuck and many other African animals, with rare leopard populations. However the park is also rich in birdlife along the tourist routes.
